I am very behind on posts, but I have to start somewhere. Last week Kyle picked up this beauty... a Piaggio Typhoon Scooter. We live about 2 miles away from Kyle's work so he figured this would work great as a second vehicle (during the warm months anyway) and then I will have our car (yay!). It is lots of fun- we have been on lots of little rides!
Welcome to our blog. We hope you enjoy the funny, gross, awkward, and happy events in our lives!!!

Nixy... my chunky monkey
Hey... decided to use my ghetto camera and take some new pics of Nix today. Deakon was not happy that he couldn't be in every shot and jumped into a few. We are headed to the Dr. Wednesday to find out how much this little man weighs now. Last time we weighed him was the 9th and he was 8 lbs. 13 oz. which was a huge jump from 3 days before on the 6th when he weighed in at 8 lbs. 1 oz.

Wednesday March 31st... the labour story (ya, labour the canadian way)
Pictures first... if you want the details- scroll down:
The view from our window:
Wednesday: Woke up feeling excited. Today was my appointment and ultrasound. I was bound and determined to make it my very last (ok, it was going to be my last one no matter what because Dr. Martyn would induce me no later than Tuesday April 6th) Hurried to get Deakon and I ready so we could drop Kyle off at work before heading to Kristen's to drop Deak off. I headed up to get my ultrasound first to make sure Nix was doing ok being overcooked. This ultrasound was nice because I had my own screen on the wall in front of me to watch. Everything looked great and the measurements guessed that he would weigh a good 8 lbs. 8 oz. I got the copy of the results and went to wait at Dr. Martyn's. They got me in right away and ready to "strip my membranes" Before what felt like he ripped my insides out, he was extremely optimistic about this working seeing as I was already dilated to a 3 and 80% effaced and had been having contractions for days. I almost immediately started having pretty steady, but far apart contractions that lasted all morning and afternoon. Around dinner they quit... Instead of staying home and doing the last clean up before my parents, sister Meri, and niece Molls showed up the next day, Kyle forced me to go to Market Mall and speed walk for 2 hours. He was ready for this baby to come. (ok, I didn't complain too much, I was ready too) My contractions started up again, but were about 10 minutes apart and as soon as we got home, they pretty much fizzled out. We finally headed to bed around 11:30.
Thursday: 12:36 AM... I woke up suddenly and seriously thought I was going to die! I had this really intense contraction and couldn't even talk. It lasted about a minute and then a minute later I had another one. NOW... with Deakon I was induced and before I started having any real contractions, they gave me an epidural so I honestly had no idea what I was waiting for. I can't believe I thought those days of contractions actually meant anything- they were NOTHING compared to these real ones. I hurried and woke Kyle up and he was so out of it and we both started freaking out because these contractions were 2 minutes apart and we thought we weren't going to make it. I couldn't stop laughing, followed by almost crying because we were so ridiculous. Kyle kept trying to push me out the door (I couldn't walk during my contractions). We were at the bottom of the stairs and I had to stop and he was like "come on, I can't carry you up the stairs!" When we finally made it up the stairs, he couldn't wait for me to put my own socks on and did it for me. We were finally on our way around 1:15 into Calgary and were so excited. We made it into triage and they hurried and checked me and I was only a 4... a 4!!! and we were worried about not making it. ha ha ha. They moved me into delivery and we barely caught the Dr. to get my epidural before he headed home to bed. Thank goodness... I am a big baby apparently. We finally were all settled and waiting for things to happen around 4. We tried to catch a few winks- Kyle got a nice padded chair to sleep on- poor guy. I tried to sleep, but was so excited I kept waking myself up. They did a shift change and by about 10 AM I was finally dilated to a 9. The epidural really slowed things down. FINALLY, at 10:30 it was time to start pushing. It was actually our nurse's break time, but she refused to go because we told her how I only pushed with Deakon for about 20 minutes. Well... I pushed... and pushed... and pushed... 45 minutes later not much had happened. Kyle was falling asleep standing up and honestly I was falling asleep in between pushes. (as soon as I started pushing, my contractions went from 2 minutes apart to 4-5 minutes apart so it was such a long wait in between) It was so different than with Deakon because it was just our nurse Carleigh, Kyle, and I. When Deakon was born, we had like 3 students, 2 nurses, and my OB along with Kyle. After about an hour, my epidural started to not work on my back and so I got to feel lots of back labour. It ended up helping us out because I wanted that baby out! Finally at about 11:50 his big ol head popped out and Dr. Aitken and her resident (can't remember her name, but she actually delivered Nixon while Aitken watched) was called in. The crazy part was that I could feel Nix coming out, but it didn't hurt at all. The resident hurried and got washed up and dressed and slowly got this little guy out. When his shoulders popped out a raging waterfall came with him. :) The poor resident and half the floor was covered with fluid. Yummy. Nix came out nice and purplely and pretty quiet. They put him right on me and started rubbing away while he slowly found his little voice. I was so happy to finally see my little guy. Kyle was standing there completely out of it and I had to remind him to take some pictures. :) It was great! We were so glad to have a happy, healthy, little guy!
