*Warning... this will be a nice, LONG, hormonal, venting post so if you would like to just scroll down and see our new little toy- be my guest!*
I can't believe it is March. Kyle came home from lunch today and said, "Do you realize that we are having a baby this month... this month???" It is CRAZY. I feel like time has passed so quickly and we aren't ready. We both have a tendency to not think about things until the last minute and then run around like chickens. I guess it is time to start running! Last month, we cleaned out the storage room so I took out all of the boxes with baby clothes up to 6 months and stuffed them into Deakon's closet. Ya, the boxes... with all of these clothes... none of them freshly cleaned and ready in drawers. Oh, and we don't even have a sleeping arrangement for our little one yet. The plan was to buy Deakon a toddler bed (months ago...) so we could use the crib, but now I want something to have in our room and the crib is too big. I think we might buy a new playpen to set up next to the bed until Nix gets bigger. Poor Deakon has been so excited to pick out a new bed so we might just have to plan a trip into Calgary before his birthday and buy one anyway. Ya, my little Deakon will be 3 years old in 2 weeks. Talk about time going by fast. I was just telling a friend today that I am nervous because I haven't had a real "baby" for 2 years and haven't changed a diaper in over 6 months. Things are going to change around here real fast. There are some definite pros and cons to waiting 3 years between kids. It's nice that Deakon can feed himself, walk around everywhere, and help out with almost everything. Most of my cons are just explaining that a real baby is going to come live with us, the new baby can't play hockey quite yet, the baby probably won't be using a bottle (confused look, followed by a hundred why's, followed by "I feed Molly, 'member that? I will help"), and just thinking about how neglected he will probably feel in the first few weeks. I guess that means that we will have to plan some really fun Daddy- Deakon outings.
Ok, anyway, I feel like I haven't really been documenting much of this pregnancy. It has been harder and easier than with Deakon. The hardest part is not being able to eat what I want when I feel like it. I know that seriously sounds so dumb... really really dumb (like what a super fat person would say) but in the first 4 months I could hardly eat anything. I couldn't choke down ANY meat and every gluten free bread/baked item I made or bought had this terrible after-taste that made a nauseous. For weeks I lived on 100% orange and apple juice and fruit. It really really sucked. Even now, I feel hungry all the time, but I still have such a hard time convincing myself that things will taste good- especially chicken. Things have been easier because I have known what to expect in the way of being tired and knowing how hard I can push myself each month. Knowing that these feelings of being huge and uncomfortable and peeing every 30 minutes WILL go away is nice to think about.
I haven't really said much about my appointments because they are really kind of disappointing. I hate that in Canada they make you see your family doctor for most of the pregnancy. Usually until like 24 weeks, but it my case, I put off finding a doctor until 16 weeks so I haven't even met my OB yet because most of them were filled up until now!!! I actually meet him tomorrow... ya, with 25 days left to go. I miss the special treatment I got the whole time with my OB in Utah... but I guess I deserve special treatment when we were playing 5 grand a year for insurance. :-o I don't miss that so much. So, from the mouth of my family doctor, "Everything is looking normal and good." Wow, thanks for the info. Maybe tomorrow I will have some real info to share.
As most of you know, I had a bit of post-partum depression with Deakon. After about 2 weeks I was a complete mess, or actually I was more like a bump on a log. All I wanted to do was stay in bed all day and cry- alone. I didn't want anything bad to happen to Deakon- it was more like "Hey, until I feel better, can I give this hungry, needy little thing to you???" When he had to be changed, or fed, or burped, or ANYTHING, I would just start crying. Luckily, we were living with my mom and she and Kyle got together real quick and helped me out. I talked to my doctor and went on some antidepressants for 30 days. About a week later I started feeling like myself and really started enjoying being a new mommy. After the month, I went off for a few weeks and still felt good so I didn't do much in the way of medication. I would just talk about it and make sure I asked for help if I even started to feel stressed. So, the whole point of writing all of this (besides to finally write it down somewhere) is that I have been dealing with a bit of depression this past month. Part of the last week of Jan/first week of February was probably the longest week of my life. For a few nights I just couldn't get any sleep and my days were full of terrible thoughts about how bad of a person I am. I couldn't clean, or cook, or even properly take care of Deakon (basically he was given food and cartoons- I couldn't make myself do anything else). It was like 6 days of hell. All I did was cry and cry and cry and whine and think about everything that I hated about my life. (Hence Kyle's party getting flushed down the toilet- I just couldn't deal with it and trying to make everyone happy when I really should have just tried to make Kyle happy) I went in to see my doctor and we talked about medication, but I really felt and still feel like I don't want to be on anything until this little boy comes along. He really stressed the importance of asking for help and really trying to only think of good things and just trying to accomplish 1 small thing a day that I could be happy about- even if that small thing was making the bed or actually getting dressed. After I saw him, Kyle and I had a talk and honestly just having a big day of talking helped me out a lot. I made myself relax and get some good sleep and the next day I opened all of the blinds and put on some good country tunes and started thinking positively. In the last 3 weeks, I have had some bad days, but for the most part I am feeling a lot better. Just really focusing on the positive and trying to get a bit more spiritually focused can really help.
So, enough venting for one day. I have spent an hour blogging and need to fold my laundry- laundry is the task of the day- and seriously, who can be sad when they smell clean laundry- it might be one of the best smells ever! Wish me luck at my appointment tomorrow- hopefully Dr. Martyn (really...) is not some grumpy, yucky, old man. :)
Oh... and here is some other good news. After having so many warranty issues with the Jeep, we decided to trade it in and came home with our new little 2007 Acura CSX! We absolutely love driving it, paying for gas (ok, not paying, but the fact that it gets much better gas mileage), and the back seat really is a good size for our soon to be 2 car seat family!
