The trouble with Quinn

Kyle Steven William Gerrie

Angela Ruth DuPaix Gerrie

Deakon Kyle Joseph Gerrie

Nixon Steven Owen Gerrie

Huge mouth fulls... I know. But they are our names. Why 2 middle names? I guess we must ask Steve and Doreen (Kyle's parents) that question. Doreen says it is because they wanted a name from both sides of the family. Makes sense, let's do it for our kids. But why, oh why, do you have 2 middle names Angi? I love my maiden name. Always have, always will. After we got married and I applied for a new SS card and drivers license I realized that I could pretty much choose a new name. So I added a second middle name. Why not?

Kyle is named after his Dad and his maternal grandfather. Deakon is named after his dad (Kyle, duh) and Kyle's papa (Joseph) AND shares his middle name with Kyle's brother, step dad, my brother, my nephew, and some other ancestors in my family. Just seemed to fit. Nixon is named after Kyle's dad (Steven) and my dad (Owen is my dad's middle name). Ok, so I am getting off track.

Let's rewind to the summer of 2006. Kyle and I have been married for almost a year and are living in our first apartment in Pleasant Grove. We figure out that I am pregnant and of course have become OBSESSED with baby names and quickly realized that our lists were very different. I will never live down the day I threw out the name Stetson. Kyle LOVES to tell everyone how dumb my names were because he has this as an example. When we were "dating" - chatting online for a few weeks before we met in person- one of his names on MSN was DEAKON. Not gonna lie, didn't know that is was actually the name Deacon. In my head I read it Dee ah con and thought it was some weird gaming term. I asked him one day while we chatted and he told me it was going to be his first son's name. I thought he was crazy. Didn't hear him say it until months and months later and didn't love it. Mostly because I had only heard it for the friend on King of Queens and a toothless old black guy that worked with my Dad at his first job cleaning up the pathways at Disneyland.

We agreed more on girl names (most of them after 5 years have lost our interest): Mercedes, Avery, Bentley, Cadence, and Quinn. Quinn was our number one. We had decided that if on that October 23rd, 2006 ultrasound day it was a little girl she would be Quinn. Nope. Sorry. There was a little wiener and we were thrilled... besides the months and months of arguing about boy names.

So where did Quinn come from? A&E. A&E? Yes, A&E. Isn't that a tv channel? Why yes, it is. While being bored out of our minds one day we started watching Inked and the opening credits started and there it was, "QUINN" in all of its feminine cursivy glory and I was in love.

Fast forward several years of girl-name planning and enter Quinn Fabray. Are we ready to be constantly reminded that our baby has the same name as the pregnant cheerleader on Glee? More importantly (to Kyle), are we ready to have her be one of many many Quinns?

Yes. I think we are.

As of now, we are very excited to welcome

Quinn Avery DuPaix Gerrie

to our family name list!

I like it!!!! And I know a lot of people watch Glee...but I don't so I wouldn't think of a pregnant cheerleader. :) And I've always worried about naming my kids a name everyone would have but I don't know ANY Quinn's and I have sorta regretted worrying so much about popularity. I really wanted to name Cali something else...but was worried it was too popular....and now I don't know ANY girls with that other name!! I say go for the name you want!! :)

Quinn may be popular right now, yes, but that's fine. As for worrying about it always being synonymous with Glee, I wouldn't worry about that. In four or five years no one will remember that at all....especially if Glee-Quinn "graduates" next year.

I LOVE it!

sorry..... this post probably made it's appearance from my comment..

I LOVE the name Quinn. I'm actually sad you're taking it because once I watched Glee and heard it, i thought- that is such a pretty name! You probably are going to get a lot of comments like mine but that's okay! I bet a lot of people who name their kids Bentley will bring up the bachelorette's bentley. It doesn't matter, in the end. It's what you feel like and you know what's best!

Congrats on picking a name and I absolutely love it!

Seriously LOVE Quinn Avery! Sorry I brought up the pregnant cheerleader on Glee:(
I think 2 middle names is awesome!
Quinn: Derived from the Irish surname O'Quinn, which is from the Gaelic O'Cuinn (descendant of Conn). The name is derived from conn (wisdom, reason, intelligence)

This post was the best! But it seriously made me homesick for you. Love the name no one will remember that show in 10 years so don't sweat it! ;)
