Church Callings...

So, I am beginning to have a new view on church callings.... First a little background info...

Kyle and I moved into our new condo last June. So, after being here for 9 months we had just about nothing to show with new friends or knowing anything about poeple in our ward. We would go church and not talk to a single person week after week after week. Now, I can't put blame on our ward- some main people would introduce themselves and everyone kept telling us "get involved, you need to put some effort into it" but it is easier to just feel sorry for yourself. (me, not Kyle- he is like, whatever I have friends at work) So, I wasn't putting any effort in, nobody asked me about visiting teachers, I didn't ask. Nobody asked about callings, we didn't ask.

So, about 6 weeks ago I guess we were put on "the list" or something and started being asked about visiting teaching and such. I was given some, and got some ladies to start visiting. Then, 3 weeks ago we were given a calling.... we were called to the "older" nursery. Some of your might be cringing right now, but I will tell you something... It is the best thing EVER!!! There are 3 other couples in with us (we rotate weeks so we can go to regular meetings every few weeks) and I really like them- one of them is having a baby in just a few months, PLUS I am meeting all of the parents to the 15+ kids we have. The kids are so cute and funny and when I went to Relief Society yesterday, like 5 people talked to me!!! That is a huge thing!!! I am sooooo glad that we got a calling and that I am meeting lots of people. In the past, if seems like we were trying to dodge the calling business, but from now on I will look for new callings because they are good for me.

I just can't believe now long it took for us to meet people- it is silly actually. But I am so glad and am actually looking forward to Enrichment tomorrow instead of finding an excuse not to go because it is awkward. Plus, I get to go to book club with some people from my old ward... it's too bad that we moved before I got to know all of them. My parents ward is awesome! Anywho, just wanted to share some good personal news.... Sweet...

Oh Angi, that is so awesome! I can totally relate to you. James and I are in an older established ward (due to living in a basement apt) and we just mind our own business. We both have been trying a little harder, and it's good to know others were in our same boat! Congrats on the calling and the great attitude with it all!!!

CONGRATS!! We were in the nursery in our "transition" ward (while our new home was being built) It was fun!! Who can complain about playing and treats!! New and growing wards are hard. We've been in them twice. Right now our new ward is HUGE!! But we are meeting lots of people and having a great time!!
